Unclog Your Drain Naturally

1. Boil the Water

You will need hot, boiling water for this job. Go ahead and boil a big pot or kettle of water. Handle it carefully and keep those little kiddos far away while you work with it.

2. Pour Water and Dish Soap Down the Drain

Once the water is boiled, pour it down the clogged drain along with the dish soap. Most dish soaps have a degreasing agent in their formulation, which will loosen the clog from its place.

3. Scoop the Baking Soda into the Drain

Now, it’s time to pour baking soda into the drain. This will further dissolve the clog. If you have a funnel, you can place it directly into the drain and pour the baking soda into it. We found that scooping it in with a spoon also works well.

4. Pour Vinegar

This step is the fun part that feels like a science experiment. Pour a cup of vinegar down the drain. You will immediately hear sizzling and may even see some bubbling as the vinegar mixes with the baking soda. This helps loosen the clog even more and makes it untangle from the place where it is stuck inside the drain.

5. More Boiling Water

Let the vinegar work its magic for about five minutes. While that is going on, boil two more cups of water. After the five minutes are up, pour the boiling water down the drain for a final flush.

After this final step, you will have an unclogged drain, and the pooled water will go away. Depending on the size of the clog, you may need to repeat this process a couple of times for it to dissolve completely.
